This book contains facsimiles of early Scottish printing held by the National Library of Scotland. It was given to Queen Elizabeth II in 1956 on the occasion of opening the New National Library of Scotland.
The binding was executed by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, one of the most important bookbinding companies of the 20th century. Not only were they known for their sumptuous designs but also for their craftsmanship.
This volume is decorated with the Royal Coat of Arms of Scotland, the spine is featuring five thistles, the symbol of Scotland.
Provenance
Presented to Queen Elizabeth II by the National Library of Scotland on the occasion of her opening the new library, 4 July 1956.
