A scene from the Kam Kandala romance painted in northern India. Kam Kandala rubs sandal paste into the shoulder of Madhava Nal who is disguised as a wandering musician. Behind them, attendants hold a fan and a fly whisk while a third in the foreground grinds sandal paste on a round stone. The god Chandra can be seen flying his chariot across the face of the moon.

This painting is one of a group twelve (RCINS 925221-32) found in an Indian silk brocade folder acquired by Edward VII when Prince of Wales, likely during his Tour of India in 1875-6.
