Coalport dessert service

These are samples or presentation pieces from a service ordered by Queen Victoria for presentation to Nicholas I following his visit to England in June 1844. The design is based on the service made for William IV by the Worcester porcelain factory in 1831, heavily decorated in gilt and painted with the British orders of chivalry which the Emperor had admired while staying at Windsor Castle. This service replaces the British orders with those of the highest Russian imperial orders.

Acquired by Queen Victoria.
