Working for us

  • Our roles

Richard, Picture Library Manager

We are responsible for all photography of the Royal Collection, the royal residences and of the wide-ranging activities of Royal Collection Trust. Our team of photographers undertake this work, coordinated by the central office staff and supplemented by a pool of external photographers. Management of our images is the responsibility of the Picture Library.

We work closely with Publishing, Press, Marketing, Exhibitions and curators on exhibitions, books and catalogues of specific areas of the Collection, arranging photography, colour-checking proofs or supplying images to the media.

Rights management is another important aspect of our role, whether advising colleagues, clearing copyright or licensing our images to third parties. On any given day we might be helping researchers working on a major feature film or organising photography of the State Banquet table in the Ballroom at Buckingham Palace.

Specialist experience, such as in fine art photography, is required for some roles within Photographic Services, but sales and negotiation skills, and knowledge of copyright, can be acquired on the job. Above all we look for people with great attention to detail and who are good communicators.
