Revised opening hours apply on the following dates:

  • 24 December 2019 - Gallery closing early (Last admission 14:30. Gallery closes 15:30).
  • 31 December 2019 - Gallery closing early (Last admission 15:00. Gallery closes 16:00).

Practical information

  • You can visit The Queen's Gallery at your leisure using the complimentary multimedia guide, which lasts approximately 1 hour.
  • Visitors and their belongings may be subject to security checks. Read more about security & luggage.
  • You can take photographs in the Gallery. Read about photography, filming & mobile phones.
  • Eating and drinking aren't allowed inside the Gallery, but refreshments are available from the Café at the Palace in the Courtyard.
  • Toilets and baby-care facilities are located in the Café at the Palace.
  • For safety reasons, pushchairs cannot be taken into the Palace. They need to be checked in at the entrance and collected at the end of your visit. Read more about visiting with children.

By car

From 1 September until mid-October 2019 the nearest car park to the Palace is the NCP Holyrood.  Please visit the NCP website for details. 

Accessible parking spaces are located on Horse Wynd, just outside the Palace, on a first-come first-serve basis.

By train

Edinburgh Waverley. The Queen's Gallery is a 15 minute walk from the station.

By tram

The nearest tram stop is York Place. The Queen’s Gallery is a 20 minute walk from the station. Visit Edinburgh Trams for times and fares.

By coach / bus

Bus numbers 6 and 35 stop near the Gallery.  Open-top tour buses stop nearby.

Limited free coach parking is available adjacent to the Palace. Alternative pay-and-display coach parking is available on nearby Regent Road.

Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing

To mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, The Queen's Gallery, Palace of Holyroodhouse will display the largest exhibition of Leonardo's work ever shown in Scotland.

Explore the exhibition with an Art Spy Family Activity Bag, packed with fun activities that take you on a secret mission to find out about the exhibition.

The bag is designed for families with children aged 5 to 11 but is full of challenges that all the family will enjoy. You can pick up a Family Activity Bag at the exhibition entrance, they're free with standard admission to The Queen's Gallery.

We offer a groups discount for bookings of 15 people or more.

Group bookings

Group visits to The Queen's Gallery don't have to be pre-booked. Tickets can be bought on the day from the Ticket Desk.

Coach parking

Free coach parking is available next to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and is accessible via Abbeyhill.


Visitors can enjoy a free multimedia tour. Guiding isn't allowed in The Queen's Gallery.
