The Platinum Jubilee at the Royal Residences

On 6 February 2022 Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. There will be year-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations as communities come together to celebrate The Queen’s historic reign. Three special displays marking significant occasions in Her Majesty’s reign – the Accession, the Coronation and Jubilees – will be staged at the official royal residences in 2022.
The Queen's Accession - Buckingham Palace
At the Summer Opening of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace, Platinum Jubilee: The Queen's Accession will include portraits of The Queen taken by Dorothy Wilding, alongside items of Her Majesty’s personal jewellery worn for the portrait sittings.

At Windsor Castle, the Coronation Dress and Robe of Estate worn by The Queen for her Coronation at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953 will be on display.

Our retail range
This official range has been commissioned to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. The design is inspired by the purple Robe of Estate worn by The Queen at her Coronation. The border decoration is based on the gold embroidery on the robe, which incorporates olive branches and wheat ears, symbolising peace and prosperity.

To help your school celebrate this important moment in history, a number of resources and activities have been created focused around four themes, exploring The Queen, her role, and what jubilees are. Visits to the royal residences for classes are available throughout the year to participate in Platinum Jubilee workshops.
