Shah-Jahan's accession

These paintings depict a durbar held as part of Shah-Jahan’s accession ceremonies in Agra during the spring of 1628. The bird in the canopy above the emperor’s head represents the huma, the bird of paradise. According to Persian tradition, whoever’s head it flies over will become a great king.
