Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (9 Sep 2024 - 13 Sep 2024) - First Level, Second Level
What can fashions worn in Georgian portraits reveal to us about the people and places, style and society hundreds of years ago?
More than you would think! Using the power of the portrait, pupils will delve into the Georgian wardrobe to discover what clothing can reveal about life in 18th-century Britain. This revolutionary period of trade, travel and technology fuelled fashion trends across all levels of society, and artists captured this clothing on canvas - meaning that we can investigate this three centuries later. Take on the role of fashion detective to uncover glittering and grizzly Georgian style stories, from staggering silhouettes to the tricky technicalities of towering hairstyles.
In this session, pupils will discover how hairstyles of incredible heights were achieved; measure the startling silhouettes of the century’s hooped skirts; explore the role of clothing on the battlefield; and find out how Georgians were fashion trendsetters in recycling.
This special session is suitable for pupils at First Level and Second Level. It is available to one class of a maximum size of 33 on the dates and at the start times below.
