Pietro Longhi and everyday life

Pietro Longhi's many paintings of everyday life in Venice were very popular with Venetian collectors. This pair shows two lovers taking breakfast and a game of blind man’s buff, representing the blindness and confusion caused by love. Longhi was a great friend of the playwright Carlo Goldoni who introduced a new realism into contemporary theatre.
