These photographs are part of a set recording the celebrations at Peterhof to mark the 10th anniversary of Alexander III’s coronation. Night photography was in its very infancy at the time and these photographs are testimony to the remarkable technical skills of this pioneering self-taught photographer, whose talent was often ignored by his contemporaries.
