King Christian and Queen Louise of Denmark

Queen Alexandra commissioned this pair of posthumous portrait busts of her parents in 1908 from the Danish sculptor Nielsine Caroline Petersen. Two other identical pairs of busts exist, one in the Danish Royal Collection and the other in the Hermitage Museum. The latter pair was formerly in the Anichkov Palace, the St Petersburg residence of Queen Alexandra’s sister Maria Feodorovna.

Commissioned by Queen Alexandra, 1908.
