Humayan and his brother

On the left is a posthumous portrait of the second Mughal emperor Humayun (r. 1531–40 and 1555–6). The astrolabe hints at his keen interest in astronomy. On the right is Humayun’s half-brother, Mirza Kamran (d. 1557). He holds a jade cup and a dried poppy head, references to his opium drinking.
