The Royal Kitchen at the Palace of Holyroodhouse is open to visitors for the first time.

The Royal Kitchen is still used today for royal occasions, serving the finest local, seasonal produce for a variety of occasions. The Kitchen has been in the present location for at least 100 years.

Regular visits by King George V and Queen Mary led to plans for further improvements to bring the building up to date. In 1923, following the King’s decision to use the Great Gallery as the state dining room, work began to upgrade the kitchens directly below the Gallery.

The huge open fireplace with its roasting spit was removed, and up-to-date steam and gas cooking appliances were installed, together with electric service lifts leading directly to the new serving rooms behind the Great Gallery.

All our venues follow COVID-secure guidelines.

The income from your ticket contributes directly to The Royal Collection Trust, a registered charity. The aims of The Royal Collection Trust are the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, and the promotion of access and enjoyment through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational activities.
