Join us for the second event in our Slow Looking series, in collaboration with the Limina Collective. The practice of Slow Looking provides a unique opportunity for us to explore artwork through the lens of mindfulness. Limina Collective's Lucia van der Drift will lead us through a relaxing and reflective hour of meditation and guided looking, all whilst drawing inspiration from John Michael Wright’s striking portrait of Charles II. Lucia will also be joined by curator Emma Stead who will give us some insight into the history of the portrait and the significance of the costume and objects in the painting.
In the portrait, Charles II is dressed in Parliament robes over the Order of the Garter costume, wearing the Crown of State, the Sword of State and the Garter Collar with the Great George, and holding the new Orb and Sceptre made for his coronation which took place on 23 April 1661.
