Miles Taylor, author of Empress: Queen Victoria and India, explores the 19th-century relationship between Britain and India through the prism of Queen Victoria and her fascination with the sub-continent.

Queen Victoria became Empress of India in 1876 and was fascinated by this vast land so far from her home. This afternoon lecture will look at how Queen Victoria sought to learn about India, and what this can tell us about wider ideas and attitudes of the time.
