Join us for this one-day, exclusive hand embroidery class inspired by the exhibition, Style and Society: Dressing the Georgians at The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace.

The day will begin with a highlights tour of the exhibition, led by Deputy Surveyor of The King's Pictures and exhibition curator Anna Reynolds. Anna will showcase some of the most magnificent portraits, clothing items and accessories on display, including the wonderful portrait of Queen Charlotte by Thomas Gainsborough which inspired the delicate motif designed especially for this course.

During the course, RSN tutor Sarah Smith will teach you all of the steps necessary to hand embroider this beautiful design. You will learn a variety of techniques including how to create a translucent white organdie ‘window’ to represent the delicate, sheer fabric of Queen Charlotte's dress, how to use gold metallic thread and the shadow work technique to create a golden rose motif and how to add delicate shoulder details in Whitework in order to complete the design.

This class is suitable for all levels of skill from beginner to advanced. Included in the ticket cost is your embroidery kit, which will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own magnifiers but please do not bring scissors as you will be able to borrow ring frames and scissors on the day. Tea and coffee will be provided during a short break in the morning. Students are asked to bring a packed lunch and any additional drinks you may require during the day.

The income from your ticket contributes directly to The Royal Collection Trust, a registered charity. The aims of The Royal Collection Trust are the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, and the promotion of access and enjoyment through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational activities.
