During this lecture, Kathryn will explore the lives and tastes of two of Britain’s most fashionable royal couples – King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, and King George V and Queen Mary – from their family lives and personal collecting to their glittering social circles and spectacular royal events.

The exhibition includes more than 300 objects from the Royal Collection, emulating the busy and eclectic interiors favoured by Queen Alexandra. Kathryn will discuss the theme of 'clutter' and focus on some of her highlights of the exhibition, including works by the most renowned contemporary artists of the period such as Carl Fabergé, Frederic Leighton, Edward Burne-Jones, Laurits Tuxen, John Singer Sargent and William Morris. A selection of items which Kathryn will discuss are included in the carousel of images below.

There will also be an opportunity for the audience to ask Kathryn questions about the exhibition.

Please note that the content of this online talk will be a repeat of an in-person lecture, given at The King's Gallery, Buckingham Palace on Monday 28 April 2025.
