Join us for a one day exclusive hand embroidery class inspired by The Darnley Jewel, one of the most important early jewels in the Royal Collection. In partnership with Royal School of Needlework, this class will be led by RSN tutor Helen McCook, whose stunning design is inspired by the jewel’s fascinating and complex iconography, with memento mori, and symbols of love. Students will learn appliqué, satin stitch, silk shading, how to couch and secure metal threads, open fly stitch and applying faux pearl and diamantés, and will also be treated to an expert-led view of the jewel, thought to have been commissioned by the parents of Mary, Queen of Scots’ second husband, Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley.
This class is suitable for all levels of skill from beginner to advanced. Your kit will include everything you require to complete the project after the class. You may like to bring your own magnifiers, but you will be able to borrow ring frames and scissors on the day. Please do not bring your own scissors.
Book your tickets on the Royal School of Needlework’s website.
