Prince Albert: his life and legacy

A major new digitisation project will explore Prince Albert's enduring legacy and influence

PRINCE ALBERT

Copy of a letter to Sir Robert Peel regarding Osborne

November 1843

Osborne House was one of Prince Albert's pet projects. His enthusiasm drove the search for a seaside residence as a private retreat, he oversaw the initial lease and subsequent purchase of the estate, and he designed the new building which stands to this day.

This document is a copy of a letter by Prince Albert to the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel, sent in November 1843, soon after the Osborne estate had come to his attention.
