FRANCES SALLY DAY (C. 1816-92)

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Prince Consort at Osborne

1859

RCIN 2914922

In this photograph from the 1859 sitting at Osborne, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert stand together. Whilst Prince Albert looks towards the camera, the Queen gazes at her husband. Day's photographs demonstrate the Queen's then preference for being depicted as a wife and mother, rather than as sovereign.
