Pera-hera and Devil Dancers at Kandy 2 December 1875
RCIN 923318
The Prince of Wales, seated here on the left, was entertained by a procession, called Pera-hera, of more than 30 elephants and masked dancers, outside the Pavilion or Governor's Residence at Kandy. Pera-hera, a Buddhist festival, is usually celebrated in July or August, but a rehearsal was organised for the Prince to see during his visit to Ceylon.
