This elaborate casket and hammer was presented to the Prince after he hammered the last rivet of the 'Alexandra' bridge in Wazirabad. Construction work on the bridge, named in honour of the Princess of Wales, began in November 1871. Spanning 9300 feet, it was the longest bridge in the world at the time. This steel casket and hammer are intricately decorated with overlaid gold wire, a technique called kuftkari.
