From the seventeenth century pineapples were sought after in England as rare and highly exotic delicacies. Pineapple leaves are depicted at the centre of this dessert stand and may have been intended to bring to mind Britain's fertile overseas dominions during George IV's Regency (1811–20).

During banquets, the circular dish at the top and the six leaves emerging from the stem of the stand hold fresh, dried or crystallised fruit.
