QUEEN VICTORIA, QUEEN OF THE UNITED KINGDOM (1819-1901)

Tea in a snow storm in Glen Beg

circa 19 Oct 1865

RCIN 980040.as

In her journal entry of 19 October 1865, Queen Victoria described how she 'drove with Louise & Baby [Princess Beatrice] to Glen Beg, where we took our tea, & just as we sat down it came to snow heavily, making everything white, & we had to put up our umbrellas. Baby was much amused'. This drawing, sketched by the Queen, probably records the event. Three figures can be seen sitting under umbrellas, while a man in Highland dress tends to a stove in front of them.
