In 1867, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh (1844-1900) began a journey around the world. During his voyage, Prince Alfred visited Singapore, Malacca and Penang. To commemorate his visit, the Bishop of Penang presented Prince Alfred with an album of photographs of South East Asia. The photographs vary from remarkable panoramic views of the cities, to portraits of the local people. This photograph depicts a view of the Malacca River in Malaysia.
