This Pomander is said to have belonged to Mary, Queen of Scots.

Pomanders were used from the late Middle Ages as a way for ladies to combat noxious smells. These perforated containers contained fragranced herbs or spices and were worn around the neck or belt. Pomanders could also be filled with incense to aid the wearer in their religious activities.
