The Siege of Montauban published by Giacomo Mascardi for Giuseppe de' Rossi, Rome, 1621
RCIN 722004.a
Cassiano dal Pozzo collected some 500 prints of European battles and sieges, many with accompanying letterpress, which were later incorporated into George III's collection of military maps. This map and the accompanying letterpress give an account (for a Roman audience) of the ongoing siege of the city of Montauban in southern France by the forces of Louis XIII, during the Huguenot revolt of 1621. The city held out and the siege was abandoned after three months.
