MARCEL ROCHAS, PARIS

Evening gown

c.1938

RCIN 93294

Marcel Rochas launched his fashion house in 1924. His dresses celebrated traditional femininity, manifest in the frills and lace of this dress.

Some of the dresses made for France and Marianne were exact replicas in miniature of adult dresses which had been successes of the 1938 season, while others were made by designers whose speciality was dressing children.  This is an example of the former.
