Early Photographs in the Royal Collection

Captain Speedy and Prince Alamayou, son of King Theodore 1883 copy after an original of 17 July 1868
RCIN 2800864
Here Prince Alamayou is shown together with Captain Tristram Speedy. Both are shown wearing Abyssinian dress.
This photograph is an 1883 carbon print after an original albumen print of 17 July 1868. The fact that the original print was later copied in carbon, a more permanent, stable form, suggests the importance of portraits of Alamayou within early photographs collected and commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
