At the age of 18 Sally received a proposal from James Pinson Labulo Davies, a successful Yoruba businessman living in Britain. In August 1862, Queen Victoria sanctioned Sarah to be married in St Nicholas Church, Brighton. The wedding was publicised in the Illustrated London News (23 August 1862) and The Times (15 August 1862).
