Walking stick

1840

RCIN 31232

This splendid Malacca walking stick, mounted in enamel and semiprecious stones, was commissioned by Queen Victoria for Prince Albert’s collection of walking sticks.

The adoption of the German custom of exchanging gifts on Christmas Eve is recorded on the gold band which is engraved with the date ‘24 Dec, 1840’ – marking Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s first Christmas together as a married couple.
