Prince Albert driving the Queen and Princess Royal in their Sledge, at Brighton.

c.1840s

RCIN 605915

This coloured lithograph shows Queen Victoria accompanied by the Duchess of Kent and the Princess Royal, in the Queen’s sleigh. Prince Albert drives the sleigh through the winter landscape in Brighton – the Royal Pavilion can be seen on the horizon.

The dark red and golden sledge is lined with red velvet on the inside. It is drawn by two horses, their harnesses decorated with ostrich plumes and different sized silver bells,  which played three different notes.
