Christmas presents were also exchanged between members of the extended Royal Family. This notebook, housed within an exquisite silver-gilt and enamelled Fabergé case, was a Christmas present to Queen Victoria from Tsar Nicholas II and his wife, Alexandra Feodorovna, who purchased it jointly in St Petersburg in December 1896. Six months later, guests attending the celebration of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee on 22 June 1897 were asked to sign its pages.
