Christmas in the Royal Collection

Christmas at the Palaces

Each year the State Apartments at Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse are beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. This year at Windsor Castle, a 20ft Nordman fir tree can be seen in St George’s Hall, and in the Royal Dining Room at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, the table will be laid with pieces from a silver service.  The service was presented by Scottish benefactor Sir Alexander Grant to King George V and Queen Mary in 1935 to mark their Silver Jubilee. The table will also be decorated with wreaths of fruits and flowers, inspired by the historical plasterwork and woodcarvings seen throughout the State Apartments.

The festive decor can be enjoyed as part of a visit to Windsor Castle or the Palace of Holyroodhouse until 6 January 2019.
