A Royal Christmas

How the Royal Family have celebrated Christmas over the centuries

CHARLES DICKENS (1812-70)

A Christmas Carol

1906

RCIN 1171065

Although not a Christmas present, this miniature edition of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, was presented to Queen Mary as part of the Dolls’ House given to her in 1924. The book, which measures only five centimetres in height, is one of 200 diminutive books found in the library of Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House.

First published in 1843, A Christmas Carol is, for many, an integral part of the Christmas celebrations.
