Oval tortoiseshell box, mounted with gold rims with inset oval glazed enamel miniature of Charles I (1600-1649), bust-length, in armour with a lace falling collar and the ribbon of the Order of the Garter, surrounded by chased gold floral border. Plain gold interior.

The head of Charles I is taken from the equestrian portrait of the King by Anthony Van Dyck known as 'Charles I on Horseback with M. de St Antoine'.
