A square silver travelling inkwell with a hinged lid, engraved with a coronet above an E monogram. The lid opens to reveal a gilt interior and a second hinged cover.  Beneath this is a square glass inkwell housed in recess with a detachable silver gilt liner.  he lid is engraved XMAS 1888 and For my dearest Eddy / from Uncle Sasha/ and Aunt Minny.
 
Struck inside lid, on base and on liner with French standard mark (.950) and city mark of St Petersburg (1888).
