The Field of Battle, Waterloo, as it appeared July 24th 1815

1815

RCIN 750738

The site of the battle was a draw for tourists almost immediately after the battle. This panoramic view was taken just over a month later. Looking towards La Belle Alliance (2) and Hougoumont (3) from the east, it shows the uneven nature of the ground, which allowed Wellington to shield his infantry from French artillery fire.
