CHRISTIAN DANIEL RAUCH (1777-1857)

Field Marshal Prince Gebhard von Blücher (1742-1819)

signed and dated 1825

RCIN 31164

This work is a reduced copy of a monument dedicated to the German hero, Blücher, one of several created after the Field Marshal’s death. It was bought by one of George IV's ministers from the royal iron foundry in Berlin. The Prince Regent had met the Field Marshal in 1814 when Blücher had presented him with his own sword (currently displayed in the Queen’s Guard Chamber).
