CHRISTIAN DANIEL RAUCH (1777-1857)

Field Marshal Prince Gebhard von Blücher (1742-1819)

c.1823-5

RCIN 31163

Blücher, commander of the Prussian army and ally of Wellington, met Napoleon on the battlefield a number of times during his military career. By the time of the Waterloo campaign he was already 72 years old but retained the nickname ‘Marshal Forwards’ for his eagerness in battle. This work is a reduced copy of a monument dedicated to the German hero – the original stands in Berlin.
