AFTER S WHARTON (ACTIVE 1816)

Entrance to the Farm of La Haye Sainte and the Gate shattered with musketry

1816

RCIN 750740.k

A print showing La Haye Sainte, on the field of Waterloo. The farm of La Haye Sainte was at the centre of the allied front line. Napoleon issued a personal order to seize the buildings, hoping to cut Wellington's forces in two. The King's German Legion held the farm, much of which had been set alight, until they were forced to abandon the buildings around 6.30pm.

One of a set of twelve prints of the battlefield produced by R Reeve after drawings by Samuel Wharton.
