The farm of La Haye Sainte was at the centre of the allied front line. Napoleon issued a personal order to seize the buildings, hoping to cut Wellington’s forces in two. The King’s German Legion held the farm, much of which had been set alight, until they were forced to abandon the buildings around 6.30pm.
