Napoleon Bonaparte

After his surrender Napoleon was exiled to the remote island of St Helena, where he was under the guard of a British garrison. These prints, showing him in military and civilian dress respectively (RCINs 617774 and 617777), reflect the continued British interest in the fallen Emperor. Napoleon was allowed to retain his military rank during his exile, and continued to wear a general's uniform.
