On her fi rst visit to Berlin Queen Victoria admired the Unter den Linden, which she described as ‘the Bond St of Berlin, a broad street, with trees … very fi ne & gay, with pretty shops’. The fashionably dressed fi gures on the boulevard add interest to the scene.
