SIR WILLIAM ROSS (1794-1860)

Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, and Prince Alfred

dated 1847

Watercolour | 25.8 x 21.1 cm (whole object) | RCIN 913818

William Ross painted many portraits of the royal children. His prices were relatively low, and the Queen appreciated his ability to capture a good likeness of his sitters. This double portrait, showing the two eldest princes in Scottish dress, was reproduced as a print, which Victoria and Albert gave to members of their court as Christmas presents in 1847.
