CARL GEORG ANTON GRAEB (1816-84)

The view from the terrace of the Casino, Glienicke

c.1858-59

Pencil, watercolour and bodycolour | 22.2 x 31.7 cm (whole object) | RCIN 920705

Victoria and Albert greatly enjoyed this view when they visited the palace of Prince Frederick William’s aunt and uncle in 1858, and the hosts commissioned a depiction of it as a gift for their guests. The striped awning lends an intimate feel to the view, placing the spectator firmly on the terrace looking out.
