CARL GEORG ANTON GRAEB (1816-84)

The Small Knights' Hall, Schloss Stolzenfels

dated 1847

Pencil, watercolour and bodycolour | 31.5 x 37.5 cm (whole object) | RCIN 920422

As well as the watercolours they commissioned as souvenirs of their first shared visit to Germany, the royal couple were given an album of views from the King of Prussia. In her thankyou letter Victoria said that the gift reminded her of ‘all the charming places’ they had visited in Prussia. At Stolzenfels castle they enjoyed tea and supper in this hall, painted with scenes from German medieval history.
