ROGER FENTON (1819-69)

View in the slopes, Windsor Castle

1860

RCIN 2100068

The Slopes is the name given to an area in the Home Park immediately to the north and north-east of the castle. This composition, like many of Fenton’s other landscapes, is peaceful and picturesque. It only hints at the existence of the castle, seen faintly in the background, emerging between the trees.

Purchased by Queen Victoria in 1860
