The Koh-i-nûr (Mountain of Light), taken from Lahore after the annexation of the Punjab in 1849 and presented to Queen Victoria in 1850, was re-cut in 1852 under Prince Albert’s direction. The Queen wore it as a brooch or set in other jewellery. The side stones were re-used as earrings (no. 222).
