A watercolour showing the monumental basso Luigi Lablache as the character of Guguelmo in Costa's opera Malek Adel. He is shown full-length, facing right in profile with one hand outstretched. He is dressed in ecclesiastical theatrical costume.
Inscribed below: Signor Lablache as Guguelmo di Tero in Malek Adel. Atto 1st Scena. Guguelmo: "Quici accampo un dio."

Malek Adel premiered in England on 18 May 1837. Princess Victoria attended it's second performance on 20 May and then saw it performed again on 23 May 1837.
