CROFT, ARTHUR (1828-C.1901)

Royal Mausoleum, Frogmore: realised design of the interior, looking towards the Chapel of the Altar

dated 1863

RCIN 919739

The interior of the mausoleum was decorated in the Raphaelesque style of which Prince Albert had been so fond. This watercolour, which was probably made for  the Queen’s approval, shows Marochetti’s marble effigy of the Prince to one side of the sarcophagus. The Prince’s effigy was joined by that of the Queen in 1901.
